Red Nose Day Awareness

Posted on 8 August, 2019 at 19:55

Good Morning to you all!

Today is August 9th, also recognised as Red Nose Day around the world. In Australia, we raise awareness for those who are stricken with the tragedy of the death of a child. Annually, 3,200 Australian families experience the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child. This has to stop. Through world-class research, advocacy and education we can put an end to this. Red Nose Day helps to raise awareness and funds for this very purpose.

Through the fundraising efforts of charities such as Red Nose Australia (Formerly SIDS & Kids [2016]), we have been able to reduce SIDS by 85% and raise over $17 million to invest in lifesaving research. There is still a ways to go, so we continue to recognise this day in an effort to stop little lives being cut short once and for all.

If you are able, please donate to this very worthy cause. And if you can't, show your support by wearing a red nose, or sharing this post so that others can be informed of this important day.

Thank you, and have a lovely day.

Flannie Day

Posted on 7 August, 2019 at 22:45

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Yesterday was Flannie Day, and some of our staff decided to show their support by turning up wearing their finest flannel apparel. Just look at these lovely people!

Flannie Day is an annual awareness and action day on the issues of homelessness and hunger in Australia. It's held on the first Wednesday of August and in the middle of Homelessness Prevention Week. Participants wear a flannie to raise awareness about homelessness and food insecurity in Australia, and take action by taking part in the Flannie Day Food Drive or fundraising for a local charity, assisting vulnerable people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness and hunger in our local communities. You can choose your own charity, or support those who are at the forefront of assisting those in need; Oz Harvest, Foodbank, and StreetSmart Australia.

Thank you for your time,
- The Team at Survivor's R Us.

Our Food Truck

Posted on 26 June, 2019 at 23:45

At the end of March, the lovely people at Tasty Trucks were kind enough to gift us our very own Hot Food Van! Since then, we've been able to deliver hot food directly to those who need it most.

We've collaborated with fellow not-for-profit charities, such as Warlga Ngurra, Tricia House Refuge, Our Backyard Lake Macquarie, Uniting Church, and Hands of Hope, to provide food for those in need almost every afternoon through the week.

On Tuesdays, we have our Hot Food Van on-site to supply hot food from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm.

We have a new service available!

Posted on 26 June, 2019 at 21:25

Survivors R Us are excited to announce that starting next Tuesday we have a weekly volunteer barber on board! We now need a supply of black hand towels, a barber chair and a rectangular small mirror. We would also appreciate donations of any professional barber equipment (clippers, scissors, hair dryer).

It's getting close to the end of the year!

Posted on 27 November, 2018 at 19:10

Firstly, we must apologise for our lack of updates on this blog page. Ann-Maria and our lovely volunteers have all been very busy with the day-to-day running of our organisation as well as looking after the many events that we both hold here on site and attend elsewhere.

We will endeavor in future to post more numerous smaller updates about what is happening here at Survivor's R Us along the lines of what we already do on our Facebook page and other social media sites, such as Twitter and Instagram.

For example, this week alone we have had several things going on:

Monday, 26th November 2018

Today we had the privilege of having Robyn Lewis in to be a guest speaker at our Butterfly Corner! She informed us about the use of ice and how damaging it is to people lives. Contact us for more information, Robyn is more than willing to speak at another Butterfly Corner.

Pictured below is Robyn Lewis with NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro during their discussion on the use of ice within Australia.

Tuesday, 27th November 2018

Everyone here at Survivor’s R Us would like to say a big thank you to Roche Group for their generous donation to our organisation as well as 10 family passes to the Hunter Valley Gardens!

Tuesday, 27th November 2018

It was our pleasure to host the group CMAP Training. A big thank you to Tracey O’Grady and thank you for the beautiful flowers!

Tuesday, 27th November 2018
